Xiaomi introduced the world’s first smartphone with a 108MP sensor, the Mi Note 10, last year. It’s looks like the company is now aiming to succeed the 108MP camera on the Mi Note 10 with an astounding 144MP sensor, with its alleged Mi 10S and Mi CC10 Pro flagships. According to a tweet by renowned tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore, Xiaomi is working on a smartphone with a 144MP camera. The tweet reads, “Xiaomi is working on a phone with 144MP camera sensor. I guess it should be Mi 10S Pro or Mi CC10 Pro.” The sensor could be the rumoured Samsung 144MP sensor that will be manufactured using the 14nm FinFET process.
Since the Mi 10S will most likely be a flagship offering, it could rock Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 865 SoC that supports camera sensors of up to 200MP resolution. Of course, there is no official confirmation on this regard yet; however, Xiaomi has always been at the forefront of launching phones with high megapixel counts.
XIAOMI WAS THE FIRST COMPANY TO LAUNCH 48MP, 64MP, AND 108MP SMARTPHONES
Xiaomi was the world’s first to launch a phone with 48MP, 64MP, and 108MP sensors. The first-ever smartphone 108MP sensor, as mentioned earlier, was Mi Note 10. This was quickly followed by both Mi 10 Pro and the Mi CC9 Pro smartphones, which is why the Mi 10S Pro or the Mi CC10 Pro are expected to rock an even higher megapixel count. The Mi 10S and Mi CC10 Pro phones’ launch dates are unknown at the moment, but we can expect it to happen later this year.
That said, having a high megapixel count doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get better images. Apple and Google, which are ruling the market in the photography department, still utilise 12MP sensors to get the job done and still don’t offer quad cameras. Nonetheless, it’ll be interesting to see how the new 144MP sensor will change the dynamics of smartphone photography.
